Strategies for College Prep

Preparing for college is one of the most stressful times in a high school students life. Luckily there are plenty of options available to help make it easier to prep and get help with the skills you need to do well. College prep enrichment programs are focused on optimizing overall performance and growth in areas that will best prepare your student for college and beyond.

Executive Functioning

Executive functioning is a set of mental skills that include working memory, flexible thinking, and self-control. We use these skills every day to learn, work, and manage daily life. Trouble with executive function can make it hard to focus, follow directions, and handle emotions, among other things. Executive functioning is responsible for many other skills as well, including:

  • Paying attention
  • Organizing, planning, and prioritizing
  • Starting and staying focused and engaged in tasks
  • Regulating emotions
  • Self-monitoring, or keeping track of what you are doing
  • Understanding different points of view

Subject tutoring is a unique opportunity to supplement the classroom in a personalized, private setting where learning moves at the pace of the student. We use fresh and creative ways to deepen understanding of class material, which can have a profound impact on a student’s ability to thrive at school and beyond.
